Serving Rolling Hills & the Peninsula

A practice familiar with the specific pressures Rolling Hills families face.

Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates families often face a particular combination of pressures: high-achievement academic environments, complex family-court situations, and the need for absolute discretion. Our practice has served peninsula families for decades, with the forensic credentials and clinical depth that these situations require.

Why Rolling Hills families choose us

Forensic credentials and peninsula experience.

20+ years of 730 Child Custody Evaluation experience

Dr. Hickson Barez served as a court-appointed custody evaluator for more than two decades. That forensic background is directly relevant for Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates families navigating complex family-court proceedings.

PVPUSD and private school familiarity

We work with families in Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District as well as peninsula private schools including Rolling Hills Country Day and Chadwick. Our evaluation reports are tailored to each school's specific accommodation processes.

Executive functioning support for high achievers

Students in high-achievement environments sometimes struggle not with ability but with organization, planning, and self-regulation. We assess and support executive functioning challenges that can be masked by intelligence, a pattern we see frequently in peninsula families.

Discretion by design

Our practice is intentionally small, not a large group practice with rotating staff. Fewer people, tighter confidentiality, and a provider who understands that in communities like Rolling Hills, privacy is not optional.

Serving the peninsula's most private communities

Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates are among the most private communities in the South Bay. Families here choose providers based on credentials, reputation, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with care, not proximity alone.

Our practice has earned the trust of peninsula families over decades. Whether the concern is a child's academic performance at a competitive school, a custody evaluation with high stakes, or a teenager navigating the pressures of a high-achievement environment, we bring the clinical depth and discretion that these situations demand.

Working with Dr. Hickson Barez has saved my life. She is compassionate, insightful, and truly invested in her clients' well-being.

Frequently asked

Questions from Rolling Hills families.

Which Rolling Hills communities do you serve?+
We serve families from Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, and the broader Palos Verdes Peninsula, including Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates. Many of our peninsula clients have been with the practice for years, and we understand the dynamics of these communities, from the academic pressures at local schools to the privacy expectations that families here require.
Do you work with PVPUSD schools and local private schools?+
Yes. Dr. Hickson Barez has worked with Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District families for decades and is familiar with the district's IEP and 504 processes. We also regularly work with families whose children attend private schools on the peninsula and in the greater South Bay, including Rolling Hills Country Day School and Chadwick School. Our evaluation reports are written to be actionable regardless of the school setting.
Do you offer forensic and custody evaluation services for high-net-worth families?+
Dr. Hickson Barez served as a court-appointed 730 Child Custody Evaluator for more than 20 years and has extensive experience with high-asset, high-conflict custody cases. While she no longer conducts 730 evaluations, that forensic background deeply informs her current reunification therapy, mediation, and consultation work. We handle these cases with the rigor and discretion they demand.
How do you handle confidentiality in a small, close-knit community?+
Confidentiality is foundational to our practice and especially important for families in smaller communities like Rolling Hills and Rolling Hills Estates, where social circles overlap. We maintain strict HIPAA compliance, our office building offers private entry and exit, and Dr. Hickson Barez does not discuss client relationships under any circumstances. Our practice is intentionally small. We do not operate a large group practice, which means fewer people have access to client information.
