Why peninsula families choose us

Built for the depth your family deserves.

PVPUSD familiarity

Dr. Hickson Barez has worked with families in the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District for decades. She understands the district's expectations, their IEP and 504 processes, and what it takes to secure meaningful accommodations at peninsula schools.

10-15 minute drive

Our office at 25550 Hawthorne Blvd in Torrance is a short, direct drive from anywhere on the peninsula. Most families reach us in 10 to 15 minutes via Hawthorne Boulevard or Palos Verdes Drive North, close enough for before- or after-school appointments.

Forensic expertise for family court

Dr. Hickson Barez has more than 20 years of experience as a former court-appointed 730 Child Custody Evaluator. Peninsula families navigating divorce, custody disputes, or reunification have access to forensic-level expertise alongside compassionate clinical care.

Long-standing PV client relationships

Many of our longest-standing client families live on the peninsula. Some have returned across generations. That continuity reflects the trust we've built and the quality of care we provide.

A practice peninsula families trust

The Palos Verdes Peninsula is known for its excellent schools, close-knit neighborhoods, and families who invest deeply in their children's well-being. PVPUSD consistently ranks among the top districts in the state, and peninsula families expect equally rigorous care from their clinical providers.

That standard is one we share. Our evaluations are thorough enough to satisfy the most detail-oriented school teams, and our therapy is grounded in decades of experience working with families who value depth over shortcuts.

I have been working with Dr. Corie for almost 10 years and she has been a vital part of my growth and healing journey.

Frequently asked

Questions from peninsula families.

How far is your office from the Palos Verdes Peninsula?+
Our office at 25550 Hawthorne Blvd, Suite 316, in Torrance is just 10 to 15 minutes from most Palos Verdes neighborhoods. Families from Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates can reach us quickly via Hawthorne Boulevard or Palos Verdes Drive North. The short drive and free parking make appointments convenient even on a busy school-day schedule.
Which Palos Verdes peninsula communities do you serve?+
We serve families throughout the entire peninsula: Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates, Rolling Hills, and Rolling Hills Estates. Many of our longest-standing client relationships are with peninsula families, and we understand the character and expectations of each community. We also work with families in neighboring San Pedro and Lomita.
Do you work with PVPUSD schools on psychoeducational evaluations?+
Yes. Dr. Hickson Barez has extensive experience working with Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District schools, including their IEP and 504 processes. Our evaluation reports are written to meet the standards PVPUSD teams expect, and Dr. Hickson Barez regularly attends school meetings at peninsula schools to present findings and advocate for accommodations. We can also serve as an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) provider for PVPUSD families.
Do you offer telehealth for peninsula families?+
Yes. Telehealth is available for therapy sessions, parent consultations, and some intake appointments. It's especially convenient for peninsula families on days when driving isn't practical. Psychoeducational evaluations and most forensic services still require in-person sessions at our Torrance office, but many families find that a blend of in-person and telehealth works well for ongoing therapy and follow-up.
