Clinical depth for Hermosa Beach families who need more than standard therapy.
Hermosa Beach is a tight-knit community with excellent schools and engaged families. But when a child needs a comprehensive evaluation or a family is navigating a high-conflict transition, local options are limited. Our Torrance practice is a short drive from the Strand and offers the specialized services that smaller beach-city providers typically don't.

Credentials that match the thoroughness you expect.
HBCSD familiarity
Dr. Hickson Barez works with families at Hermosa Vista, Hermosa Valley, and View School. We understand the culture of Hermosa Beach City School District and write evaluation reports that translate directly into IEP and 504 accommodations within the district.
School-district transition expertise
When Hermosa Beach students move from HBCSD to Manhattan Beach Unified School District for middle and high school, existing accommodations can fall through the cracks. We help families navigate these transitions with updated evaluations and advocacy.
Comprehensive evaluations under one roof
Instead of a referral chain (therapist to testing center to specialist), we handle psychoeducational evaluations, ADHD and autism assessments, and forensic work all in one practice. Fewer handoffs means faster answers.
30+ years with South Bay beach-city families
Dr. Hickson Barez has served Hermosa Beach and neighboring beach communities for over three decades. That history means established relationships with local pediatricians, schools, and family law professionals throughout the South Bay.

Getting to our office from Hermosa Beach.
From the Hermosa pier area
Take Pier Avenue east to Pacific Coast Highway, then head south on PCH to Hawthorne Boulevard. Turn left onto Hawthorne and continue south. Our building is at 25550 Hawthorne Blvd, on the east side of the street. The drive takes about 10 to 12 minutes.
Parking
Free parking is available in the building lot, so there's no need to hunt for street parking or feed a meter. Take the elevator or stairs to the third floor, Suite 316.
A community that does its homework
Hermosa Beach families prize both academic achievement and quality of life. When a child is struggling, whether academically, socially, or emotionally, parents here tend to research thoroughly before choosing a provider. They value clinical credentials over convenience.
That thoroughness is exactly what our practice is built for. Dr. Hickson Barez holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology, has over 30 years of experience, and maintains forensic credentials that most therapists in the beach cities don't carry. When the stakes are high (a school evaluation, a custody situation, a child who isn't thriving), families come to us for the depth that general practices can't provide.
I have been working with Dr. Corie for almost 10 years and she has been an incredible source of support through some of the most challenging times in my life.
